Film Review: The Notebook

The NotebookNow, please don’t judge me because I decided to watch The Notebook after 14 years, judging is not nice. I’ve always been dying to watch it but I’ve never really had the time to, but lately I’ve had some spare time and decided to fill them with watching the films that I should’ve seen. And me being a big fan of Ryan Gosling and not having watched The Notebook was killing me on the inside. Seriously.

The Notebook adaptation is based on the best-selling novel written by Nicholas Sparks. Nicholas Sparks is one of the writers that I love a lot actually, I think the one of my favourite books of his will have to be The Last Song, I loved the whole concept of that book and it was such a beautiful story, and yes, it did make me cry, there was so much passion. What I love doing when reading a book is just reflecting from the beginning of the story to the end and see how much things have changed. Unfortunately, I didn’t read The Notebook before I watched the film, my reading list is quite long at the moment, but I will definitely get round to it.

Where do I start? I wasn’t sure whether I should’ve watched it because there was so many different opinions, some said it was boring, others said it was sad and then you have the people who say that it was the most cutesy film you’ll ever see. And me being a fan of cutesy films decided I had to watch it. And let me tell you by the end of that film I had tears in my eyes. Yes, tears. And I don’t usually cry for films, I get to that really close point but I never really let it out. It was so hard to hold it in.

I think The Notebook can classify as the most romantic story after Romeo & Juliet, but no offence to Shakespeare, I’m tired of that story, I thought that The Notebook was even though a little cliché at times, was the most beautiful story on the planet. I mean COME ON! It just kept on surprising me more and more, and well it got to the point where I was like I don’t know what’s going to happen any more, is she going to go for her first love or the good looking wealthy man? Like I just didn’t know. I like how the story gave you that false hope, then picks it up again then straight away drops it, like a roller coaster ride.

This is a story of two wonderful people, who find each other, and have that spark of love in them for each other. A story of how even though many things will pull you apart if it’s meant to be something will always help you find your way back to each other. Anything. Maybe that’s fate, or maybe that’s just some serious good luck, we’ll never know. But it shows how when they do find each other again, they won’t leave again, and they stay together till the end. Right till the end.

I’d like to say that the film was amazing because it had Ryan Gosling in it, but that wouldn’t be fair on Rachel McAdams. And the only reason the director had decided to cast Ryan Gosling was because he thought that Ryan was because he wasn’t handsome nor cool, he was just a regular guy. Which I mean was rather harsh, and I strongly believe that the director was quite blind, to not think that Ryan Gosling was unattractive. Did you not see him pull the Dirty Dancing move on Emma Stone in Crazy, Stupid, Love? Well that film was obviously not out then but still, I hope after watching it he reconsidered his thoughts.

I will strongly suggest that you all watch the film because it’s honestly the most beautiful film I’ve ever watched; I think that it’s something that shouldn’t be missed or delayed for as long as I have delayed it. Because you’ve missed a lot, and I’ll gladly admit that, even for you none mushy people I guarantee it will make you mushy. And do read the book! I’ll be sure to let you all know when I do read it!

Thanks for reading and I hoped that you all enjoyed it!
